Greetings!
It's hard to believe it's February already! Time for Valentine's Day and for my family it's tax time.
Well this month I've included an article with tips on how to have a romantic dinner with your loved one - even if you can't find a babysitter. Even if you are on a tight budget.
Also included is an article showing you easy ways to organize your tax papers, so when all your W2s and interest statements start coming in you're ready. Bring on the tax refunds :)
Have a wonderful month!

A Parent's Guide to a Romantic Valentine's Day Dinner |
Valentine's Day is almost here and tradition says you should go out to a fancy restaurant and buy lots of long stem red roses for the one you love. Maybe you hoped for a romantic dinner for two at a nice quiet restaurant, but your babysitter cancelled at the last minute. Or did you plan on a romantic getaway to a beautiful bed and breakfast only to have your mother who was going to babysit come down with the flu. Let's face it life doesn't always work out the way we plan. Here are a couple ways to enjoy a romantic Valentine's Day dinner with your whole family.
Feed the Kids First - If you children are young you could feed them dinner first. Let them enjoy their meal. Give them a nice warm bath, and off to bed they go. With the kids in bed asleep, you and your loved one could enjoy a nice quiet dinner alone. The only drawback is that you would have to eat a little late in the day.
Dinner and a Movie - Another option is to allow your kids to eat dinner while watching a movie that will really keep their attention. This works well with slightly older kids (elementary-school age). Serve them something special to eat - something they don't get very often. Maybe dessert and candlelight for them. Make it special for them.
Take the Kids Along - I know some are saying Ughhhh. Remember the point was for you and your mate to have a romantic evening together, but you wouldn't have to cook and you would still get to spend time with your loved ones.
Reschedule - Your final option is to reschedule. This might be your best option as it will save you time, money and headaches. Restaurants won't be as crowded - which means you'll wait less for a table. The prices will probably be lower also. Lastly, you can arrange for a sitter and even a back-up sitter (just in case).
It can be hard when you have young children to escape for a romantic evening alone, but it's really important to put time into your relationship now. Your kids will grow up and eventually move out. Cherish the time you spend together as a couple and start now with this Valentine's Day.

Get Organized for Tax Time |
It's that time of year again. Tax Time! It causes some people to groan and other to cheer. Whether you end up paying Uncle Sam or you get a nice sized refund, there is an easy way to organize all you tax papers.
To start off, you will need to purchase a 13-section, letter-size accordian file. These are available at your local office supply store, Wal-Mart, or even some grocery stores for under $10.
Next, label the sections Jan-Dec and Tax Info. Throughout the year put your receipts, bank statements, bills, cancelled checks, etc in the section that corresponds with the month the money was spent. Just drop your receipts in the section for that month. This system is really useful when you need to return something to a store and need the receipt. Just look in the corresponding month.
Finally, file any donation receipts or business related receipts that could be tax deductible in the section for Tax Info. This is also where you store your W2s and interest statements.
When the time comes to do your taxes or meet with your accountant just bring along your file folder. You will already be organized. No more searching for missing receipts or bills. Being more organized could make tax time less stressful.
